On
Friday, October 21, 2004, at 7:30pm please join BEBASHI
and the Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey Host Committee
for the United
States Conference on AIDS at the Filbert Street entrance
of the Marriott Hotel to begin our Candle Light March through
Center City Philadelphia from 12th & Filbert Streets
to Spring Garden Street. As we proceed down Spring Garden
Street, renowned choirs from Philadelphia will sweeten the
air with soulful gospel music. There will be a mural dedication
and unveiling. Directly following the program, please join
us for a reception hosted by BEBASHI.
A Candle
Light March and mural dedication will honor our history
and our heroes in the fight against HIV/AIDS. As the HIV/AIDS
community begins to face extreme difficulties we must gather
strength, knowledge and be rejuvenated by our past.
This
event combines the best of Philadelphia from many perspectives.
Learn about our history and our heroes. Also, witness a
sampling of our nationally recognized public arts project
in the dedication of a mural. As part of the City’s
support for the USCA 2004, the Philadelphia Mural Project
has been funded by the City of Philadelphia, AIDS Activities
Coordinating Office (a division of the Philadelphia Department
of Health) and the Department of Human Services to create
two murals highlighting the issue of HIV/AIDS. This message
will continue to resonate even after we are gone.
The
candlelit vigil begins at the rear entrance of the Marriott
Hotel located on Filbert Street. Pleae wear comfortable
shoes as this is a six-block walk.
