Come
to BEBASHI on Tuesday May 4th for a free HIV test and receive a
ticket to the opening night of E. Lynn Harris' play, Not a Day Goes
By. In addition, everyone who is tested on May 4th will be eligible
for a drawing for two roundtrip airline tickets on SouthWest Airlines
during opening night of the play. BEBASHI will extend its hours
for testing from 8:30am - 6:00pm. The stars of the play will be
on hand at BEBASHI during the day for a meet and greet and autograph
session!
Not A Day Goes By tells
the story of what happens when lies, deceit, and betrayal meet fear,
lust and greed. An extravagant wedding has been planned for what
looks to be the "perfect" couple but just before the marriage
ceremony, the dreadful past and the deceitful present jeopardize
the ideal's future. The play stars the incomparable Jackee Harry
of the hit TV shows 227 and Sister, Sister; Gary Owen from BET'S
Comic View; Tryence from American Idol; Chris Keyes and Ryan Gentles.
In Philadelphia, Not A Day Goes By will be playing at the Merriam
Theater.
E. Lynn Harris was born
in Flint, Michigan and raised, along with three sisters, in Little
Rock, Arkansas. He attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville
where he was the school's first black yearbook editor, the first
black male Razorbacks cheerleader, and the president of his fraternity.
He graduated with honors with a degree in journalism. His first
novel, Invisible Life was followed by Just As I Am, And This Too
Shall Pass, If This World Were Mine, Abide With Me, And This Too

By, A Love of My Own, Any Way the Wind Blows, and his most recent
novel, A Love of My Own were New York Times bestsellers. Harris's
sixth novel, Not A Day Goes By debuted at #2 on the New York Times
bestseller list and was a #1 Publishers Weekly bestseller for two
consecutive weeks. Currently, there are over three million copies
of Harris's novels in print. Three of his novels have been optioned
for film: Invisible Life and Just As I Am by Showtime and Not A
Day Goes By by actress Pam Grier for her production company.
BEBASHI was founded in
1985, and is the first AIDS service organization to address the
alarming increase of HIV/AIDS in the African American community
of Philadelphia. Today, Bebashi continues to conduct street outreach,
but expanded to include free HIV, STI, and pregnancy testing and
counseling, HIV prevention education, case management for HIV+ individuals,
housing counseling, support groups for various lifestyles, and provides
emergency food for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. BEBASHI'S
programs serve 15,000 Philadelphian's annually. Our mission is to
provide culturally sensitive health related information, direct
service, research, and technical assistance to the urban community.
It is estimated that
in Philadelphia alone 16,000 individuals have AIDS. This means that
as many as an additional one-third are infected with HIV and do
not know it. Knowing your HIV status is an essential step in taking
