Congresswoman Maxine Waters from California to accept award from BEBASHI during their 15 Anniversary Gala Fundraiser and Awards Dinner on December 1st!


BEBASHI (Blacks Educating Blacks About Sexual Health Issues) will commemorate its 15th Anniversary of “Protecting Our Future” on Friday, December 1st, World AIDS Day 2000 with a gala fundraiser and awards dinner to be held at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel, 13th and Market Streets. A 6:00 p.m. VIP reception will kick off the night’s activities and will be followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m.  

The keynote speaker will be U.S. Congressman Chaka Fattah. The honorees are Congresswoman Maxine Waters from California, Drs. Loretta and John Jemmott, internationally acclaimed HIV/AIDS researchers at the University of Pennsylvania. There will be a silent auction by October Gallery, a display the AIDS Quilt which travels the globe in memory of AIDS victims worldwide and a special video taped message from commentator and human rights activist Tavis Smiley, host of BET Tonight.

That evening, BEBASHI will have the honor of being the Philadelphia host of the South African AIDS Quilt… which is currently touring the United States.
