NBC 10's Monique Braxton served as the Mistress of Ceremonies

BEBASHI commemorated its 15th Anniversary of “Protecting Our Future” on Friday, December 1st, World AIDS Day 2000, with a gala fundraiser and award dinner held at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel. The festivities began at 6:00 p.m with a VIP reception and followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. Over 200 Philadelphians showed their support of BEBASHI and HIV/AIDS awareness ion the Delaware Valley that evening.

The keynote speaker for this landmark event was U.S. Congressman Chaka Fattah. The emcee for the evening was BEBASHI supporter and NBC 10 Anchorwoman Monique Braxton. Honorees for the event included: Congresswoman Maxine Waters from California and Drs. Loretta and John Jemmott, internationally acclaimed HIV/AIDS researchers at the University of Pennsylvania. Highlights of the evening include: a silent auction sponsored by the October Gallery, a display the AIDS Quilt which traveled the globe in memory of AIDS victims worldwide, and a video taped message from commentator and human rights activist Tavis Smiley, host of BET Tonight.
