"I
don't understand what all of the drama is all about",
says one anonymous* BEBASHI case manager. "I mean Elmo
and his friends have been educating kids about AIDS for well
over a decade now.
But to think that some members of Congress would actually
want to cut funding to Sesame Street because they have introduced
a character with AIDS in South Africa is totally ludicrous.
It just goes to show you that my work is not done yet."
Elmo
was on hand at BEBASHI's Holiday Harvest which was held at
Mount Carmel Baptist Church. The event was Thanksgiving dinner
to thank all of the members of communities that BEBASHI serves.
Since
1985 BEBASHI has been teaching the urban kids about AIDS,
and Safer Sex Prevention. Even though thier paths rarely cross,
that work that has been mirrored and supported by the producers
of "Sesame Street". The show has continually made
strides, teaching kids that although AIDS is a scary disease,
you can't catch it from casual contact.

ELMO CUTS MEAN RUG --
Editor's Note:
We blurred the faces to protect the privacy
of our party guests.
We can vouch that all of those kids had huge smiles at the time. |
