Stiltwalker
salutes United States Conference on AIDS
Nine Foot AIDS Ribbon Visits
The Clothespin
On
Monday, October 18th, 2004, the United States Conference
on AIDS will be coming to Philadelphia. To mark their arrival,
entertainer Dale Varga will be on stilts and dressed as
The AIDS Ribbon at The Clothespin between 8 AM to 10 AM.
Together with his costume he spans a height of over nine
feet.
His
appearance coincides with a press conference kicking off
weeklong activities designed to heighten awareness around
AIDS. “AIDS is about the people. I’ve lost too
many people and don’t wish to see it happen again.”
says Varga. Along with BEBASHI,
a local agency that provides AIDS education and other services,
he will be passing out educational stickers and pamphlets.
This
multi-talented entertainer is also a magician and performs
routinely from Atlantic City to Philadelphia. In all of
his productions, he infuses an educational component which
propels his audience to think. In his portrait of the AIDS
ribbon, his message is very clear. Dale says, “Only
the ignorant die from AIDS. If my actions cause just one
person to embrace safe sex, then it’s worth it.”
